The simplified version of how the camera works is that it uses lenses to focus light on the photodetector. Most compact digital cameras use charge-coupled (CCD) as a photosensor. When light hits the sensor, it will save the image and transfer it electronically to the organization. After that, it will convert the image into binary digital data and stored in memory.



To get a perfect picture, the amount of light reaching the photosensor must be carefully controlled. To do this, you need to control the shutter speed and aperture size. To make things easier for you, the compact digital camera manufacturers put speed electronic shutter and define the size of opening on automation.



Megapixels plays an important role on the quality of your image. It is related to the amount of detail in your image. Thus, the more megapixels you have the details, you may have about your image.



You can see that the cameras today come with an optical zoom and digital zoom. Optical zoom is most important because it zooms in on your subject while only digital zoom enlarges your image. That is why sometimes you get the picture fuzzy with digital zoom.



Cameras today are equipped with LCD screen for you to view the photos you've taken. Do not misunderstand that the compact digital camera and the LCD will be low. It depends on how the manufacturer fir the screen to the camera.



If you have a digital camera back in the early days, you should remember that the storage device has been built into the camera. This led to some frustration for some photographer because you have to delete the pictures when the memory is full. Fortunately, as technology evolves, you can now enjoy portable memory storage.



Now you can store your photos in memory devices such as SD cards or smart media. When memory is full, you can simply label the device memory and store it in your scrapbook. In addition, a memory device nowadays are different sizes. The amount of memory storage device depends on the quality of your image and how often you take photographs.
