How many of you think your bike should be faster? I saw a lot of questions regarding the speed of their scooters, wanting to change the exhaust, air filters, gears, etc. to make them faster.
Do you actually think there are loads of untapped power available in this small motor, which can be triggered with minor modifications?
Did you think that the engineers who designed it thought to themselves "we have to limit the speed on these things, or they will be" dangerous?
Or do you think there is a government regulation that limits the power / output / speed of these vehicles?
And how many of you think it is safer to use a scooter to a motorcycle on the highway?
Better yet, how many people think you do not need a DOT approved helmet for the scooter on the highway? Those of you who ride motorcycles without helmets do not need to answer, just be sure and sign your organ donor card.
Let us take these one at a time.

It's human nature to want more of a bike (moped, scooter or motorcycle) that is the speed, mileage, or manipulation. This is true all the way to the largest dispacement bikes. When I was a teenager because my moped go faster. Funny how nothing has really changed.
>> Do you actually think there are loads of untapped power available in this small motor, which can be triggered with minor modifications? "
Nope, no charges, is not going to happen! However, minor inprove top speed may have with minor modifications, and in some cases, that is all that is necessary with the smaller bike (49cc). There may be new to you, but a 50cc moped totally derestricted can easily get up to 45 mph. With the setting itself, such a bike can go 50-60mph. Now, if you want to start adding performance parts, even faster.
>>> Did you think that the engineers who designed it thought to themselves "we have to limit the speed on these things, or they will be dangerous "?<<<
No engineers do not limit the speed on the bike. Lawyers do. This brings us to # 4.
>>>> Or do you think there is a government regulation that limits the power / output / speed of these vehicles ?<<<<
OH YEAH! All EU countries have laws regarding mopeds (under 50cc). Some are worse than others, but most require a moped must be limited in top gear at 25-30 mph by the manufacturer. How the work restrictions or if they are limited does not matter for States.
Some States are also required maximum power to the rear wheel. Michigan 2HP. A 49cc engine downgraded easily make anywhere from 5-10hp depending on the distance you want to take it.
>>>>> And how many of you think it is safer to use a scooter to a motorcycle on the highway ?<<<<<
Any two-wheeled vehicle, a motorcycle from a motorcycle, is in danger on the roads.
We share the road with people driving cars who talk on cell phones while reading the morning paper, and holding a cup of hot coffee between their knees. The last thing that person wants is to pay attention to the road in front of him / her.
All the while runner-of-thing to do is to try to identify risks and take steps to aviod such risks.
