Can a locksmith store make copies of a Mazda chipped key? 2005 Mazda Tribute. We came with a second key, but it is not programmed with the code to start the car, even if it opens doors and work in the ignition. It has the little thing in him, but a locksmith can program or do we go through the Mazda dealer? I tried the dealer but it was a Saturday and they said Mazda in California was not opened for them to call. $ 25 for a key and another $ 75 for this program. I'm hoping to find cheaper key or two. Thank you!
First, you ask two separate questions:
1. Can I get a key other than a Mazda dealer
2. Mazda is the dealer the only one who can program my key.
The answer to question 1 is yes. Any locksmith or hardware store that has the correct white you can cut your key. The chances are slim that you will find what. Be careful, you do not want a key without a chip placed on you.
The answer to Question 2 is not. Only a Mazda dealer can program a key for a car that has a single button work. Basically if you lose one of your keys so that you only have one working key for the car, you must visit the dealership so the lost key is disabled. Only the dealer can program a key in your situation.
Now if you have 2 working keys, and you want to add a third or fourth key, you probably will not charge $ 75 dollars the car will not need to be connected to the terminal and use time shop.
If you want to call ahead the dealer and make sure they do not care if you have 2 keys work for a third party program that could be a good idea.

The second key is a transponder key which has not been programmed for the vehicle? " If it is, you can use your current key and simply have a locksmith or a dealer program it on the vehicle. We charge $ 60 for this operation. If the key is not a transponder key and simply type all metal key, you must obtain a new key cut and then cloned out of the working key. We do not charge to clone a key from our machine, it is in about 10 seconds to the difference in programming vehicle that can take 30-60 minutes. Thus, it is simply the cost of a new key, although the keys of cloning are more expensive than the example above noncloning.
OK Here's the thing, I have a Mazda 3 and also need a second key program that I can program a third key. If the Tribute is the same procedure, you need at least two programmed keys to program a third. If you just get a cut key, he opens the car but not turn the car on. Fortunately, my friend works at the Mazda parts and did the work for free. :) Otherwise, it would have been like $ 130 jobs. If you have only one key, sorry to say, but you have no choice but to do so at the dealership. Then you can program a third key of your own. Always three keys.
Like others before me said, some can and some do not. The cost at the dealership will not be much the locksmith, if any.
If it is blank and the right equipment to copy the chip. Call around locksmith who can do it. But do not expect prices much less. Or if you know a local chop shop ....
