How to brighten room (what kind of light / bulbs, etc.)? I think I have my depression stems frmo this terrible lighting. What types of lamps / shades work best? and what kind of bulbs? and what color on the walls? I like neutrals, would be a goldy-beige warm, or simply to make "fade"? I'm going crazy!
Personally, I think the best "happy" rooms are painted green. Get furniture or decor that is bright and shiny. Make sure all corners of the room were light, and open all windows. :)
You must bring the outside in. sounds weird, but it works.
The depression that comes from being in a darkroom is very real and has been well established by medical science. Therefore, hospital rooms are full of natural light and are very "bright" color.
This does not mean you have to look like your space like a hospital room, but most of the same ideologies apply here too.
I suggest you paint the room a light green with a broad green band around the middle piece halfway little above the wall.
The horizontal band will make the room feel ---- ------- WIDER removing and cramped "feeling in the room. And ... to the horizontal strip above the halfway point, (but always at eye level), will make the room appear larger.
For storage solutions ... the use of very high shelves that are very close in the corners of the room .... and make sure to hide the clutter away. If you need to store small items on the library .... put them in decorative baskets that hide them, but always handy for use.
Make sure you put a lot of large green plants in the room. This will bring life into the room and increase the amount of oxygen available in the room. When one dies ... replace. Continue to do so until you grow a green thumb.
Use all natural light that you can possibly manage to enter the room. If you still want the privacy that is fine. Set up curtains and cover with colored light panels full ... you can remove them to allow natural light to flood the'.... for you and the plants.
More ... put a sort of water body in the room. A small table top fountain suffice. The sound of running water is soothing and relaxing and will help give you a sense of belonging to the universe.
Put a little green soft textured plush carpets on the floor with a table that is the right height to sit on the floor for meditation. Be sure to enjoy hot tea while listening to a CD made for relaxation. They sell these for a dollar each at Dollar General or similar stores.
So .... find a tower of glass containing large .... (Look in discount stores like Big Lots for a glass container at a reasonable price .)....
Put candles in assorted large container. One of the candles must be flavored with lavender. Lavender has been considered very soothing to the senses. That way, when you inform ... It's like having a fireplace impromptu anyspace you want to have one.
Then, get a container of one to put a little sand in the bottom .... then buy smooth stones and a small rake. You can move the stones in the sand to remove your nervous energy. This really works.
Spend time in this room today as "relaxation" instead. Go online and learn about relaxation techniques. Once you are relaxed and "unlocked" with the stress .... you'll be able to conquer the world.
