Utility Designs - A list like doing laundry more efficient Why is it that shabby basement laundry room designs are the norm?
Since the family started doing their own laundry in their own homes instead of attacking the commercial laundry, the laundry day tasks were relegated to places like the way the basement or garage. I think that good designs laundry would at least require that the center of laundry in the house would be placed near the place where the laundry is generated! The last time I have no washing of it came from the garage!
Coordinators in each wash house (you know who you are) have been dragging piles of laundry in the basement or garage for decades and I think it's time to start planning for utility drawings that are friendly to all family. The average North American family is anywhere from July to October loads of laundry per week it is a task that takes a long time in family life. It is time to take a look at sensible designs laundry.
Make no mistake, if you have to do laundry, you want it to be as pleasant as possible a chore. At the very least good planning should eliminate some of the unpleasantness that goes with being laundry day.
Good design should provide laundry for convenience for the entire laundry and not just washing and drying. The whole process includes sorting laundry, washing, drying, folding, ironing and here is my wish list for a laundry room makeover.
- stacked washer and dryer - a space in the washer or the dryer is the lost space. Even if you put shelves or cabinets, upstairs you will be a gorilla to reach them.
- Isolation - I might have to do laundry, but I do not want to be reminded all the time by the noise of machinery.
- laundry room designed just for laundry - never notice how much laundry to be annoying with dirty clothes and laundry baskets strewn about?. My dream laundry center will be just for laundry so I did not stumble on other things (basketball, running, coats, snow suits, rubber boots, etc.) on laundry day.
- Laundry center near where the entries "are! - Why not be the laundry room near the bedroom? is where most of the laundry coming! Think how much time can be saved if the trip the laundry room was short-lived!
- Special "lockers" assigned to each family member - Washing machine own bent can be placed there to store them in their own room.
- a horizontal work surface - just big enough for the use of folding towels , sheets or t-shirts
- cupboards and shelves - products like laundry soap, bleach, stain remover and are best hidden behind closed doors! Preferably in a vertical space next to the office machines stackable
- drying area - or a small space or Drying Rack to hang the clothes to be dried in air
- a supply of buttons and thread - it would be more convenient to be able to sew on a button right away when you notice it is loose.
- a menu board - Who likes setting up the ironing board? And have you ever noticed that once it is established, it stays there? and everything is stacked on it so you can even use it for ironing. I wish I had my ironing board ready to go and iron already connected so I can get it running with a flick of a switch!
- laundry tub - a place to relax or pre-treatment of stains or soak some of these items as draperies purest.
- some art
