Geocaching SuppliesUseful tips for beginners Geocaching? The best way to search / lock into the specific area or supplies of need?

You can start with as little as a GPS, but you'll start doing other things soon. If you do not try to find one that either has maps loaded on it, or you can download maps, either online or from a CD. It makes things easier.

I print the information sheet for the caches, I'm looking. This way, you have the info you put online Hitler, and contact information, indexes, etc. You can print the log entries if you want, or if there is a link to a "no newspapers' version almost the top left of the webpage. If you do not print a map of the location, you can take notes on this page about the best way to arrive at the cache - streets, roads, east and south, areas parking, etc. The sheet also has information on difficulty and terrain. You can use it to try to decide if you want to try this cache now, or if you want a friend to go with you. Caching with a friend or more hiding known is probably the best way to start. You can learn a lot from them, and update faster that way. Check the logs for people who seem to find many things in your area and ask them if they mind some company of a few rides. Also, sign up for weekly notification of new caches in your area. Watch this caching events in your area. You will meet many people this way.

I have a backpack I use to make all my misc. caching stuff. It has: extra batteries; booty a bottle of water caching, as I have either bought for that purpose, or traded, a flashlight, a bag of first aid kit, travel bugs, a couple of small notebooks, and often some heavy ziploc donate to a cache, if it is in poor condition.

One last thing - learn to identify poison ivy, poison ivy, poison sumac and if they are spread to everyone in your area.

Not sure equipment needs, but as for the search / lock, use all the information you find on the site, with contact details and all the help you can get, but if you rest was to get all your orders and make sure you're safe when you go to a cache, in other words, if you want to go somewhere that you have not been before, take a way to get their hands on emergency assistance. Also, make sure that people know where you are going and when you expect to return.
Sunscreen, bug repellent, etc., are all good things to take with you. and make sure you have a GPS that can process signals under heavy foliage cover.
