If you are looking to start a program for storing food for your family, then you need to know about the storage life of foods that can be stored. There are four factors that affect the shelf life of food to store. The temperature of the storage area, the moisture content of the food, atmosphere storage container and the reservoir itself. Let us examine each of these factors.

1) The temperature of the storage area

Temperature has more to do with how long will the food shelf than anything else. The bottom line is that if you decided to store your food in a warm environment, it will only last a fraction of the time it would last in a cool, dry place. Some believe that the optimum temperature is 40 degrees F or less. However, few people will be able to achieve this goal. Another factor is that you a place where the temperature is relatively constant. frequent temperature changes may also shorten the life of the food store.

In short, do not forget to store a cool, dry and dark, where the temperature remains relatively constant.

2) Moisture Food

Foods with excess moisture can damage them in their containers. For long term storage, the food must have a moisture content of 10% or less. This can be difficult to achieve because the average person does not have specialized equipment.

One option is to get dry food, which are specially prepared for this purpose. The water content of these foods has been supported in the process of preparation.

3) The atmosphere in the tank

Foods packaged in air in storage containers do not store well, that many of the oxide oxygen compounds in foods. Nitrogen gas is popular for storing food. It works very well.

Some people use oxygen absorber packets. Simply place one in the storage container and seal. The only thing to remember is that the storage tank must be able to withstand a certain vacuum pressure, as the packet that will create absorber absorbs oxygen.

Most food packaging units of food in nitrogen-packed # 10 cans.

4) Storage containers

For the longest life of your stored food, your storage containers must have a hermetic seal (airtight). # 10 Cans and pails airtight storage of food quality work very well.

A very important fact about the storage containers is that they must be quality food containers. # 10 cans used for food storage are often coated in enamel. You can also purchase food-grade plastic buckets 5 gallon.

If you buy a business unit of food prepared with # 10 cans, then the second, third and fourth factors are already addressed to you. To satisfy the first factor, you want to continue to store food in a cool, dry and dark.

If you buy plastic buckets, add food, and seal yourself, you'll need to rent a nitrogen bottle to fill the airspace in the buckets. When you do this, the oxygen will be displaced leaving only nitrogen.

Remember these things when buying or creating a supply of stored food for your family.
