As the county town of Perthshire, Perth is also known as the city of St. John's or the beautiful city.

It was the capital of Scotland until the mid-1450, when Jacques I moved the capital to Edinburgh.

Even if a flat and compact city, which makes navigation easy, the city has much to offer including excellent shops, restaurants, entertainment, culture, recreation and sports all easily accessible from downtown.

As it is in the heart of Perthshire, Perth is also a perfect base for exploring the surrounding countryside and attractions. Located as it is in central Scotland, it remains a major transportation hub for travel by car and rail in the rest of Scotland.

There is also a small airport is located at New Scone, 7 km north-east of the city. There are no commercial flights into or out of this airport, rather than the emphasis is on private flights and flying lessons.

There are a number of popular architecture and historical sites throughout the city and the surrounding countryside, including Scone Palace and St. John's Kirk. The Black Watch regiment was also based here on the Dunkeld Road and museum is located inside Balhousie castle.

On the hillside, Kinnoull Hill and Craigie Hill, characteristic of the forests spectacular walks and splendid views over the city.

In addition, a short distance from the city you can find Huntingtower Castle, which is open all year and Elcho Castle, which is open during the summer months. Both of these historic buildings are excellent examples of late medieval Scottish tower-houses and places very popular for weddings.

There may be a multitude of historical attractions of the region but also a modern city.

"The Arts Festival Perth is an annual showcase of art, theater, opera and classical music throughout the city. The festival takes place in May and usually lasts a few weeks. In recent years, the festival has broadened its appeal by adding comedy acts and popular music at the festival.

The state recently opened art concert hall Horsecross cost nearly 20 million and this shows in various forms: theater, music and comedy.

Perth is the ideal place for a special day or holiday. Walking around the city is a joy. As a "coherent Britain in Bloom winner streets and parks are filled by the color of Easter to fall.
