Cleaning Slate Floors

Cleaning Slate FloorsHow to clean your slate floors?

What do you clean the slate floors? What do you use?

stone flooring can be difficult to clean if it gets a spot but regular damp mop can be done with any pH neutral all-purpose cleaner or soap stone. If it is neutral and safe for stone floor, it will say on the bottle. Simply dilute the instructions say. Do not add work, but it is important to sweep or vacuum before cleaning. I use a sponge or microfiber mophead.

I limestone floors in the rooms of my house and it is even more porous than slate. For a spot, we are in the same boat and need to use what we call a poultice. There are several types depending on the stain, and can be purchased at any store like Home Depot big house. It makes a paste that is on the spot, covered, overnight and pulls up the stain.

Just mop with white vinegar and water to pick up dust and dirt. Check-in some places that if more dirt is there, you can try a paper towel and very clean. White vinegar and water works great for floors slate. It can not remove real dirty areas to clean and use areas of baking soda and rub the dirt and stains immediately. Then go to the area again with white vinegar. Use hot water while mopping.

You can buy a cleaner natural stone flooring. Or anything that is really a mild detergent will work. Do not use anything with peroxide or bleach in it if you have colored grout.

green cleaning products will work, even as a brand name Clorox
