Fruit clamshell containers can be recycled? I have containers of many fruits and wondered if they could be made with plastic or taken to the grocery store and recycle them.
Generally, these food containers in clear plastic clamshell are not recyclable. The figures you find in the pursuit of arrows describes the type of plastic, not its recyclability. A plastic is recyclable if they are a recycling company willing to take, and in general, these companies collect only types 1 and 2 ... and even those that are collected with restrictions.
Some manufacturers are beginning to make shells with compostable, plant-based "plastics", but they are not yet widely used. The best policy is to avoid clamshell packaging whenever possible.
Just offer them on your local Freecycle. Someone can use them for storage or an art project.
If they have the symbol on them, yes.
