World Food Containers

Global demand to rise 3.8% per year until 2013
Global demand for food containers is projected to increase 3.8 percent annually to 115 billion in 2013. Factors contributing to growth include the growing demand of global food production and trends toward food choices based on convenience due to hectic lifestyles. In addition, demographic trends continue to have a significant influence on the food container demand. For example, the increasing percentage of urban population and women in the workforce, combined with the increasing number of single person households will fuel packaged and processed food costs, because more time is limited for meal preparation and convenience benefits. Products made from biodegradable materials will publish robust progress, albeit from a low base, the result of greater pressure on producers of packaging to reduce their environmental footprint. Bags, pouches remain largest product segment
Overall, bags and pouches will remain the main type produced by a wide margin, supported by ongoing developments in high barrier resins and value added features such as resealable bags of microwave and stand-up pouches. Demand for bags and pouches will benefit the image of products "environmentally friendly because they are often associated with efforts to reduce packaging. In addition, the cost benefits of bags and bags compared to rigid containers - especially given their lighter weight (which provides savings in transportation costs), their small size (which gives a gain space storage) and their lower energy requirements during production will help earnings.

Plastic containers to be the fastest growing type
The fastest gains, however, are designed for plastic containers, based on improved performance plastic container, and their cost advantages over metal and glass containers. However, the cans will remain an important segment of the combination of food containers because of the economic benefits of canned products in the control of food expenditure. While glass has always had an advantage in wide-mouthed containers used for smaller items such as packing baby food, plastics are making advances in these fields and because of improvements in property fence and the improved hot-fill bottle construction and capabilities. In addition, increasing the weight of glass containers over plastic counterparts continue to restrict applications - especially in export markets - because it increases the cost of shipping.

BRIC countries to expose some of the best gains
While the U.S. is by far the world's largest user of food containers, the most rapid gains will occur in developing regions of the world. Asia, Latin America, Eastern Europe and Africa / Middle East region will exceed all the world average. Population growth and urbanization more (except Eastern Europe) the trends of industrialization and expansion of international trade support developments in the packaging sector in these regions generally underdeveloped. Rising levels of consumer incomes and expanding middle class will also generate strong domestic demand for consumer packaged goods such as processed foods, stimulating consumption of food packaging. Some of the best gains are expected in the BRIC countries Brazil, Russia, India and China. In particular, only China is expected to represent more than one fifth of the gains from global value of the food container demand between 2008 and 2013.
